Teacher Interview - Video and Reflection

Teacher Interview:     Video - Teacher Interview Reflection:      I learned quite a bit from Ms. Deanna and her experiences. She has been teaching for 5 years and has gone through online learning and in person learning. She gave me a lot of tips and suggestions. I also learned some great methods of classroom management. I was able to listen to stories and past experiences and learn through her words and how she handled things. I was also able to get to know her better and understand her teaching philosophy. This was really eye opening and I'm so happy to have had the chance to do this.

Module 3: Chapter 7

Chapter 7: Behavioral Views of Learning               Concept 1: Operant Conditioning: Trying New Responses                                    Summary: There are ways to control behaviors with multiple types of methods. In order to do this, there will be antecedents and consequences. Most people associate this with bad consequences such as a punishment. Consequences can also be considered something of value in which a student receives praise, a prize, candy, etc. These two antecedents and consequence types are called negative reinforcement and positive reinforcement. Negative reinforcement is punishing in some sort of way due to bad behavior in attempt to reduce the bad behavior. Positive reinforcement is rewarding due to good actions/behaviors to try and encourage the student to continue to perform well. Both of these are effective tool...

Module 2: Chapter 4

Chapter 4: Learner Differences and Learning Needs     Concept 1: Intelligence                    Summary: In this section of the book, there is a lot mentioned about intelligence and how it relates to a student/person. In general, this causes distinction of disabilities and abilities also causing for inappropriate labels placed on various people. Gardner had developed a theory of multiple intelligences in which each person is capable of being intelligent in their own ways. Some might be intelligent in sports, or music, while others are talented academically. Sternberg also had a theory of intelligence in which there are three elements: analytic, creative, and practical. This means a person fits in between one of these categories. IQ scores are also a common way to measure intelligence, but studies have shown these to not be fully accurate in showing the full capabilities of a human being and what they are worth. ...

Module 1: Chapter 3

Chapter 3: The Self, Social, and Moral Development               Concept 1: Identity and Self-Concept                                         Summary: Self-development is something that changes as a human move forward in life. Humans will find their identity and who they are as they grow in their knowledge of themself and the attributes that surround them. At a certain student in classrooms will start comparing themselves to others and their self-esteem may grow or decrease due to that. It seems that statistics show that in middle school girls' self-esteem goes down while boys' self-esteem goes up.                                  Reflection: I will be working with students who are in elementary grades. I...

Module 1: Chapter 2

Chapter 2: Cognitive Development                Concept 1: A Definition of Development                          Summary: There are four types of development within a human. There is physical development in which there are changes in the body. There is personal development which is when there are changes in the person's personality/characteristics traits. There is social development which affects how the human interacts with other humans. Finally, there is cognitive development that is how the person's thinking varies. Everyone develops differently, at different time rates, in different processes, and for differing reasons. Overall, it is important to realize that the four types of development within a human will vary due to the uniqueness of their design.                      Reflection: The fir...

Module 1 - Chapter 1

Chapter 1: Learning, Teaching, and Educational Psychology                Concept 1: Learning and Teaching Today                         Summary: Teaching environments today are diverse and unique in all types of ways as described by Woolfolk. Students of all cultures, races, languages, economic standings, and abilities/disabilities are within the classroom wanting to learn (p.25). The diversity within the students taught are increasing while the diversity of who is teaching them remains the same - white women. Students with differing ethnicities are wanting to include their practices and show their cultures within the classroom. Students of color are looking for representation and ways to feel comfortable. Students who do not/don't just speak English want to learn. Students are living in poverty and other undesirable environments that will ultimately affect their learn...
